This is a personal account of an American woman who lived and worked among Afghan refugees and tribal Pakistani Pashtuns in Northwest Pakistan. Benedicte Grima’s first visit to this region was in 1979 when she drove from Paris. During her subsequent visits, she travelled extensively and developed meaningful connections with the people. She immersed herself in their world to provide a sensitive portrayal of a region which has recently gained significance in the West.
